MessageI have just read your site and was amazed at the number of people I remember from my childhood. I used to play with Regina Hogg at school, there was such a big family of them.I remember when Regina came off her bike at Campbells garage and had an awful mouth injury.I also knew the Blyth's,Rices, Breen's, some of the O'Preys and I think I just about remember Terry Andrews,he who never left the chapel[good living, like me,haha].I moved from Killyleagh about 20 years ago and have never been back.I don't know if I would like to visit as memories are sometimes better left, mostly good I may add.I hope everyone I knew from the site is well and you never know,we may come across each other someday. To Regina Hogg,I hope you are well, and all your family,I missed playing with you when your family moved to Scotland.I remember you had a sister Angela and loads of brothers, your mum Marie and dad Don. Well wishes to all living in warmer climes.Enjoyed reading about you all, until we meet again, all the best Maria. smilie

MessageFirst visit to Killyleagh 1964. Met a lovely young girl called Jean Copeland (lived in one of the 2 old cottages) next to the Police Station on Downpatrick Road. Married in 1966 and raised 3 beautiful daughters - each giving us 3 wonderful grandchildren. Jean and I travelled far and wide eventually settling in Sheffield in 1984. Sadly 'Jeany' passed away on 1 May 2009 after a long illness. We left many friends in Killyleagh all those years ago. How many times did we remove the light out of the phone box lol, pressed button B and got the money back or tapped out the number on the phone bridge piece lol.
Jean's Dad, David was well known around Killyleagh in the 60s, he worked in the Mill at Shrigley. My goodness how memories bring the brain to life. Wonderful memories of a brilliant life with some ever so wonderful friends to be with.
Mick Ward Ex Kingo who came and stole one beautiful wonderful lady from the Emerald Isle and never looked back. Her life was my life and I am so much happier for it all. smilie smilie

MessageI seen your web page for the firet time today and it brought back some lovely memories.I worked in Killyleagh flax spinning mill in the 1960's as a wet spinner. After work on the weekend I and my mates went to The Picture House in Frederick Street to see the latest black and white movie, did we think we were on top of the world or what.I went to Sammy Flynn's shop in Irish Street for my 10 woodbine and loose tea and the cheese cut while you wait, none of that now.Sammy had a barrell of sawdust with lucky dips in it,the children loved it.Sammy was a handsome fellow, half the reason I went to the shop.Pity I was married.I have been widowed three times so Sammy if you are still a bachelor boy, well who knows.Imoved from Killyleagh when I first wed and have only been back once.It was nice seeing the castle but it was hard to recognise the place. The new houses at the quay are lovely,Iremember the coal boats coming in there, gone is the mill, replaced by houses and The Dunmore Hotel I believe is now a Nursing Home.My mates and I had a few good nights there even if I never did drink alcohol, you don't need to drink to have a laugh.I had 6 children, all grown up now,5 grandchildren and a pet westie dog called Tuft.I hope to return to Killyleagh again and see even more changes in it from when I was there 5 years ago.Thank you for your wonderful stories Dennis and for giving me the chance to sign your guestbook.Looking forward to more stories of the Old Town and the people in it. smilie

MessageHello Dennis. Loved your articles on Killyleagh.I have lived in Irish Street for over 80 years and knew your family.I was delighted to see the old photos of Killyleagh from my youth,a far cry from what it is now,I wish I could go back to those happier times. The photo of High Street was so wonderful,Mary Millen in the photo died a few months ago,God rest her, such a lovely person.Iam new to this internet lark and my typing is a bit on the slow side but I felt compelled to reply to you.Reading your other messages cheered me up.Our doctor was Dr.Sproll, mentioned by one of your guests, and we all remember John Fitzsimons shop at the head of the town.I hope the Hannah that said he may be related to you turns out to be so and keeps in touch with you. There are so many strangers in the town now I know little of the[old crowd],it used to be so friendly and everyone knew everyone else.Do you remember Walkingshaws chip shop in Shore Street, the best chippie ever, the place is full of foreign food muck shops now, yeuk.I am on my grandaughters computer and going home now so I'll not know if anyone replies to this letter.Itherefore bid everyone adieu, have a happy life to one and all and may God bless you all and take care of you .With all my love, smilie smilie
