MessageThanks for the help. Your info led me several places, one was to winhlp.com, which led me to my problem. The DHCP Client was set to manual(and was not running), so I changed it to Auto and the dynamic address now works fine.

Gary,

Thanks for the tip! The DHCP Cient service is indeed an essential component.

MessageHi chuck, hey I am confused with the link to "System error codes" in Networking. It leads to a MSDN page for the Windows Vista beta 2 release, so I am confused how this can help with networking Windows XP Pro. Do you have a link to error messages for Windows XP Pro (Media Edition)? I really would like to have the System Error Codes as a referance when I am having Networking Connectivity problems. I currently am having intermitant lose of connectivity, it mysterously drops the connection, then just as mysteriosly reconnects itself. I sometimes have to click "repair" or do the Flush Renew in a command prompt window. I have a Belkin Pre-N router with corresponding adapters and am using the Windows configuration tool. Thanks for all your efforts here on your blog, though it seems much more of a website to me than a blog. You are amazingly talented by the way! What a cool site this is, thanks for providing it for us who are less knowlegable, Seree

Hi Seree,

Thanks for your kind words, and for the latest advice. The link in " Look At The Complete Detail..." has been fixed. If you need more in depth technical advice, may I suggest you post in a forum, as suggested in my Introduction Webpage (link in header above).

I'd look forward to working with you in one of the forums! Or you could leave your email here (it will remain private - most people do leave an email address, though you can't see any).

Cheers,

Chuck

MessageHi Chuck, I was given this link by Mark at the Microsoft Windows XP group. We both were having problems getting connectivity for our guest accounts. Anyway, I just am so impressed with how much effort you have put into this site and how willing you are to share your expertise and knowlege. I am a widowed mother of eight children and put our computer away five years prior to purchasing a new one in may of 05. It seemed the best way to inforce "parental controls" as you are aware, non existed in software or hardware form way back then. I quickly discovered how far behind the times technically speaking I had become. I have learned a lot this past year or so, but have so much more to learn. I have many Microsoft Press releases, especially the Inside Out series. I set up my home wireless network all on my own. Well, I had some help from Belkin. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for all your efforts here and at the Group Forums at Microsoft. People like you are few and far between. Again, thanks so much for all your hard work and willingness to share your experiance and knowlege with those less experianced and very needy of assistance. Have a pleasant day! Seree

MessageYour weblog is indeed very useful. We fell simply happy after we could put on your "categories" and favicon. We are raw beginners. Everything is not that easy to grasp. Anyway thanks.
