MessageHi Chuck,

Great site! Can you help me? Through your site, I found my problem through ipconfig reporting of Peer-to-Peer on my small workgroup network without WINS. I added NODETYPE = 1 to change to BROADCAST and all was OK. However, everytime my wife brings this laptop to school and connects to their Wi-Fi network, it sets back to Peer-to-Peer and an entry DHCPNODETYPE = 2 is found. How do I fix this?

THANKS!
Drew

MessageThanks Chuck, you helped me fix a really sticky networking problem. Turned out that IPCONFIG said Node Type was Perr-to-peer and I don't use WINS. Now, to figure out why it occasionally changes back? She uses wi-fi networking at school...

MessageThank you! My blog has been down for 2 days and I had no response from Blogger (I know, they're busy and I'm getting what I pay for smilie ). I read through your blog and, turns out, all I had to do was republish my blog. Not sure why it went down in the first place (I wasn't doing anything with it at the time) but republishing fixed the problem.

So, thanks! I'm not a faithful reader smilie

Messagehey PChuck--

a thousand thanks, sir. i've been beating my head against my home network for a month, off and on. a homogenous LAN including three different flavors of XP and a Samba fileserver, and i had a basic 1-user system of shares up between the fileserver and any given client. last night was my final push -- once i found it, your site filled in all the missing holes in my Win-Networking comprehension, answered every non-Samba question i could think of, and helped me finally get the system up and running the way i want it. you've got a great site, very thorough and comprehensive on the subject.

i expect if you'd had pages dedicated to the Samba voodoo, i wouldn't have had to look anywhere else for the info.

ps -- it looks like your guestbook's verification code system is broken. or i can't read, one.
