MessageSaw him at 131 in Vancouver I was in the upper balcony first row looking down as he went out of his way to meet and greet random fans in the stands between bouts ,I thought it was cool that this guy (at the time I didn't know his name but knew his face from cornering stout ,homnick and horodecki on numerous times who have become my favorites)was makin an effort to make all those fans day .from that I learned he was the" Tompkins "of team Tompkins. It's one of the outstanding memories of that event for me.

MessageI never met Mr. Tompkins personally but only through training clips and mma interviews but was highly influenced by his energy and teaching. It saddened me deeply to learn of his passing.

MessageYou were the first name I knew in MMA. From the first time I met you in Mtl @ UFC 83 you were always so very kind, courteous, and spirited. You always took the time to stop and talk. You were never too big for the fans you were a true good hearted Canadian boy through and through. We had many encounters over the years but @ UFC 129 in Toronto, it meant SO MUCH to me when you gave me one of your Team Tompkins shirts.
I couldn't wait to wear it with pride. The opportunity came at Bellator 47 @ Casino Rama. I think I was the only one in the building with your team shirt on. The example you had set previously and over the years filled me with pride to be wearing your colours. We didn't get a chance to speak that evening but numerous times you took a moment to wave and recognize my support. My last memory was when Chris had entered the cage that night and you were standing on the cage as you always have. You knew where the Team Tompkins shirt was sitting ring side and you turned, looked at me, winked, threw a thumbs up and smiled. Its the little things that make a difference and leave a BIG impression...you did just that. I am so saddened by the news and was so very much looking forward to seeing you and Sam in Vegas in October. I know I will still see Sam and he will have a lot to fight for that night. My condolences to the family, loved ones and team. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am so happy to have met you Shawn. You will be remembered forever. May you RIP.

MessageWhat a tragic loss! Shawn was such an important contributor to the world of Canadian MMA. Fans like me owe him a lot for his training and fighting contribtions with Sam Stout, Chris Horodechi, Mark Homonick, and others whom he helped to bring to such success. My sincere respects to his wife, Emilie, brother-in-law Sam, parents and other family members.

MessageLike everyone else that met Shawn I too was impressed with his magnetic personality the first time our paths crossed. When I was getting the MMA Expo concept off the ground in 2004 I was new to the space and tight on budget. Shawn was one of the first instructors to step forward with advice and an offer to provide seminars on the show floor all weekend, at no charge - anything he could do to help me and help MMA. I am so glad that we were able to have Shawn as one of our instructors at MMA Expo Vancouver just weeks ago. Always an absolute pleasure to be with. Sadly, the sport lost a great Coach… and the planet lost one of the nice people I have ever met.
