MessageAbout 3 years ago my nephew went to vegas on a goal; to be a mma fighter. I tried to look after him in the home state of indiana, however he had goals. Then he told me he became part of the new tapout gym i didnt worry anymore. There was a reason for that, i knew what kind of coach and family he became a part of.
Thanks coach for looking after all of your boys. U will never be forgotten.

MessageRest in Peace Shawn. It was an honor to be your attorney for several years, but it was an even bigger honor to have known you and been considered your friend, as well as a friend to Emilie and others in your family and camp. Your sense of humor and easy smile always made it a joy to share your company, even when I would shout "Is that Tito Ortiz?" (referring to you)leaving an event or a weigh-in. You will be missed, but your presence cast a wide and enduring shadow over the sport of MMA. Your attention to detail in your training and your business set an example for many to follow. It was a privilege representing you, but most importantly, knowing you.

MessageI first met Shawn when I was working at a Local Bar in London, called the Ridout Tavern. The Ridout was a very Interesting place to Work, to say the Least!

It was not uncommon for Brawls to break out at all areas of the 18,000sq. Ft. Bar. One night when I was working there was this blonde haired guy that was standing near me, and we started talking about Fights, and other things, when a Brawl started then I jumped in by myself, and this guy came in to Help me out.

That is the first time I met him, and then we hung out for a while, then I ended up moving to Toronto. I found out when I visited back to London that Shawn opened a Training Center across the street from my Father in Laws Commercial Rental Building on King St. In London.

I went in to see him and spoke a few times on other Visits, then I heard he was doing the UFC gig. I was Happy for him as this was his Dream.

I have followed his progress and Accomplishments, then we ran into each other again in London, with Tony Lee, and Toufic. We Partied for the Night, then I did not see him again until yesterday at his Memorial Service in London.

He was a Cool Guy who had a Strong Personality and lived life on His Terms! I have never met a Guy like him ever!

I am Happy he got to Live His Dream!

I paid my Respects to Emilie and Sam, and the rest of his Family yesterday. It was really hard to be there, but I kept thinking of his Dry Humor, and the fact that he touched so many Lives.

Thanks Dude!

Ed.

MessageI had the pleasure of meeting Shawn last year, and he was one of the most approachable personalities I've ever come across as an MMA journalist. He was very warm and welcoming, and his smile was infectious. To see someone as young as him pass is tremendously heartbreaking.

I ran into Shawn late last month at Rama, where again, he was so respectful and approachable.

I will remember him as being not only one of the best coaches in the game, but a true gentlemen as well.

My condolences go out to Emilie, the rest of his family and Team Tompkins. He will be dearly missed.

R.I.P. Coach.
