MessageWhile I never knew Shawn personally, I have met and had the privilege of learning about MMA through Sam Stout and Mark Hominick. Exemplary models of the sport, and Canadian athletes, these guys will not only carry on Shawn's talents in MMA, but his qualities as a leader, role model and friend to many. On behalf of myself and your friends at SNAP Newspapers in Canada, Our thoughts are with your family,

MessageI only met "The Coach" once at the UFC fan expo in Boston. I hopped in front of a line where a bunch of people were taking pictures to try to meet "Stitch". Shawn was sitting next to him at the autograph table and didn't hesitate to ask me my name, shake my hand and give me an autograph. He didn't have to do that at all and the fact that he seemed so happy to meet me and take the time to talk to me for a minute still touches me to this day. It's a memory I'll treasure and I felt I needed to be shared in light of what has happened. I'm honored to have gotten to meet him and share a moment with him.

MessageShawn's talents were obvious to anyone who watched the fighters he coached deliver results in the cage. His passing was far too soon for the talent that he brought to MMA. From his days as a fighter in UCC his greater skill set was brought to bear as a coach, who seemed to shine more outside of the cage than in. We will feel his absence in MMA for years to come. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, for someone who was taken from all of us at far too young an age.
