| Message | PChuck, Just a quick note here to thank you for your excellent site. I recently brought a new computer into my home network, which I thought was fully functional and properly set-up. Surprise: it wasn't, and it gave me serious grief. I was on the verge of reinstalling my operating syatems. But . . . through persistence, using the the right tools, and reading your networking pages carefully, I have solved the problem and my nework is running better than ever. | Message | Chuck What are the procedures to install a home network 3 pc's and a printer. The desktop OS is XP and the laptops use vista. I have a linksys Wirless-G Broadband Router w/Speedbooster 802.11g 2.4GHz and HP PSC 1610 printer. Internet access is through Time Warner cable. Let me know if additional info is required. Tom |

| Message | ok I will use the online forum to post this question,but I hope you well help me please.I have a windows me desktop that I have a hp officejet v40 connected to it. I have a laptop with xp with the service pack 2 a friend some tme ago got it to find the printer but not through the network folder how he did this I do not know .I also now have a laptop with vista on it . I have the print and file sharing enable on the desktop. I can see the folders on it and the vista and I can access files but not the printer. In the network folder it shows the printer but if I click on it from the desktop it ask if I won't to install it and if I do that it puts it back in the printer folder as printer 2. My friend has move and I do not know any one who can help. Its seems that all the files to make it work is not there but the printer works find with the desktop and the laptop with xp . I did one time get the vista to print through the laptop with xp on it but then I fooled around with the computers and lost the connection not sure what other info. you might need but if you can help me it would be greatley appreciated. |

| Message | I found the misleading errors: "shome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. This list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available" and "\P9333iii is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." were caused by Norton Internet Security 2007 Personal Firewall. My work around was to select Personal Firewall, Configure, Trust Control, Trusted and add each computer's IP address that I wanted to access. Therefore I only needed the article's basic diagnostics first step. I followed basic diagnostic step 4 and checked Enable NetBios over Tcpip to enable the computer icon to show under My Network Places... Thanks for posting the help. PS I don't have Goggle email. |
