MessageChuck, I don't remember how I found my way here but it's not important anyway; what's important is that I DID FIND MY WAY here and will be back spending hours I'm sure smilie I'm a big fan of sites dedicated to "folks who know" BBR aka DSL Reports is one I spend hours on just reading. As usual I'm running my mouth/fingers.

Like you I hate spammers but if you have an A list you keep for folks who like to be kept up to date please free to throw my email addy on it; having my web site here will generate some email when I get the email addy changed!

Yea I know my web site needs alot of work and I'm not a raw code writer I have to use WYSISYG programs like NVU, please don't hit me with too big of a stick! At least I'm hanging in the right places smilie

Thanks for the great site, Mike

MessageHi Chuck,
First off I want to thank you for your efforts. Your web site is a wonderful resource. One of the best I have found.
I am here because I was hoping to enlist your help but I am not the best way.
I 'moonlight' for a couple small business with very small networks. I have a situation where a newly installed XP Pro machine is not visible to the other PCs in the workgroup. I have tried going diligently through your troubleshooting steps but am getting nowhere.
Would be willing to review what I have done? Please let me know if yoiu are and what is the best way to get information to you.
Thanks!
Steve

MessageFirst, I networked my Vista with three XP computers. One of them requests a user name and password. Where do I find this? I've tried all the passwords I know. I'm the administrator on all of them but the passwords don't work.

Any suggestions?

MessageCame across your site while looking for help with my XP WFW problem. My 2 PC network has been working well for years. I recently "upgraded" from Win2k pro to XP pro. Now my network is not working. The network consists of an SMC router fed by a DSL modem and eithernet cables to each PC. As it is now, the first PC to be upgraded (my wife's) can see directories on my PC, but can only read files on the d:, e:, and f: drives. (I have multiple drives for video editing.) My PC can not access files on her PC. Any suggestions?

MessageThanks so much for this site and information!
I am struggling to get through the info on making my two hard-wired CPUs share files! Very frustrating! Now, I can not even see the shared files on CPU-2 when I am working from CPU-2!!?? (through the Networking/MSHOME DIR)

MessageGreat site! I am encouraged to find that just because I can't instantly fix my home network it doesn't necessarily mean I'm incompetent. This is complicated stuff!
