MessageGreat site. It’s about time we stopped allowing the pseudo-skeptics to pretend they are using scientific methods to analyze claims of the paranormal.

MessageWhat a fantastic site! I'm an ex-believer still angry with myself for believing such utter rubbish. Thankfully, I'm now free of all the ignorance and superstition that used to blight my life. Now I feel totally liberated and at peace with myself. Thank you so very much for the wonderful work you are doing and take heart in the knowledge that, bit by bit, we are defeating the followers of ignorance and superstition.

Unfortunately, here in China where I teach English there are a growing number of Fundamentalist Christians spreading their particular brand of ignorance and superstition.

Also, one commentator said that Mormons are not Christians - WRONG! As an ex-Mormon and ex-Christian I ought to know!

MessageI have just read your article "Debunking the Law of Attraction". My husband died just a few months ago and I am navigating the road of widowhood, being "helped" by a several friends who espouse these beliefs. I have never experienced such a lack of compassion. Your article makes me sigh in relief and remember that many things in life ARE random. There is, undoubtedly, a lesson in this for me, but it's not to find out why I my husband or I attracted this, it is to learn how to live with reality. People die. I will continue rebuilding my life without feeling to blame. Thank you!!!!!!

MessageWinston Wu's take down of so called pseudoskeptics is flawed. The fact that you don't answer the arguments that have shown his essay to be flawed shows that you really aren't interested in skeptical viewpoints at all. smilie

MessageI agree with you I currently work for sears but am putting in my 2 weeks soon. They should make you aware of the quotas that you need to reach and they make it seem so easy to just reach one out of the three. Every time you make a sale its always did you get a protection agreement with it? Because its our fault that the customer chooses not to get one. They also fail to tell you about the 3 month rule that if you do not make your numbers three months in a row they are going to fire you. Also they do include the first month on the sales floor but do not tell you that either. There is basically no training and if you run into any complications you're basically on your own with the exception of co-workers who are willing to help.

MessageThank you for this web site; I'm a scientist (yep, I use scientific methods of investigation in my work) and the tactics of the pseudoskeptics have bothered me for years after I saw how they truly "investigate". Here's what happened. I bought a few issues of Skeptical Inquirer at book stores several years ago. In one, I read a short article by a very prominent member of their CSICOP organization (I cannot recall his name), concerning his "investigation" of the Bell Witch Cave in Tennessee, alleged by some to be haunted. His investigation consisted of the following: 1. Walk into cave with a pencil and notepad. 2. Meander around for about an hour and wait to record any observations of any unusual phenomena. 3. Leave cave after about an hour. 4. Conclude after this one visit that the Bell Witch Cave is not haunted.

smilie OK, well, if I applied that sort of "rigorous" study to the cave I would be ashamed to write up my so called study and publish it in a magazine.

I am not saying that the Bell Witch Cave has any "ghosts" in it. In fact, I have no idea whether it is haunted or not. But the method used by the CSICOP member to "determine" whether the cave was haunted was woefully inadequate.

MessageI want to comment on your Sears article. I agree that in general MAs don't make a lot of sense if a product's under warranty--why pay for something you already have? But even if you don't buy the MA when the product is new, you can buy it later when the mnfctr wrnty expires. My 15 year old washer wouldn't stop filling. It cost over $300 to repair & all that was wrong was a hose had come unhooked when we moved. Fast forward 3 years. My ice maker quit in my Kenmore fridge shortly after the mnfctr warr expired. The Sears rep told me to buy the MA when I called for service. I bought a 3 year MA for just over $200. The ice maker was repaired, saving me about $100. Less than a year later, it failed again & had to be completely replaced. No charge to me because of the MA. Also, the seal went bad and was replaced. The MA saved me hundreds of $s. I renewed the MA when it expired, adding my GE dw that was installed by the builder 8 years ago. The cost for both for 2 years was $350. Two days later the compressor on the fridge quit. The cost far exceeded $350. The lights on my dw are staying on after it runs and it is scheduled for repair. The MA has more than paid for itself. I agree that ext warr don't make sense because they usually cost more than they are worth. Sears' appliance MA's is the one exception to this rule. You don't have to buy it when the appliance is new. You are right that people just need to be informed.

MessageI took a look at this statement of yours. Argument # 4: You said, “Contrary to this argument, the Bible contains data which is inconsistent with recorded history. ” and you reference from the Smithonian Statement on Bible historicity. Wow, Maybe you need to read it again. Number one Mormons are not Christians.
Number two, you made the statement about the historical errors in the book of Daniel. I started to read it but there were so many errors I had to stop, I thought how can this be? I never heard such statements. Then I looked at your references or should I say the lack of. Your only Reference is Asimov’s Guide to the Bible. Really? This is your Proof? A Science Fiction Writer/Chemist/Humanist? I have dealt with a few cults in my day that only use material to fit their ideology and you fit right in. Hey did you know we never landed on the moon? It’s all over the net. It’s True… OK, enough of the fun. Let’s get serious here. I tell you what. Read the book “Evidence the Demands Verdict by Josh McDowell” and do a page by page Critique of it. Oh and don’t forget to list all your references, this helps to bring credibility to your work. If it credible, people will listen. If it’s just statements, well, people will not take you seriously.PS I am a Born again Christian.

MessageYou are the following:

Horrible salesperson!

Negative and closed minded.

A fool!!

The fact is that Sears has been in business longer than you and I have been alive!!

They remain in business because their most loyal and satisfied customers purchase protection agreements.

You spend $2000 on a refrigerator, why would you not protect your investment??

By purchasing Sears Master Home Protection Agreements, you on average add 7 to 11 years of life to your product because your service includes
ON SITE ANNUAL PREVENTITIVE SERVICE!!

Sears is the only company that offers this service.

Do you change the oil in your car?? If not it probably will fail in a couple of years or sooner.

Same principal applies here.

You are a moron and it is embarassing that you were employed by this company.
