Messagesmilie smilie i have been writing to the bureau of military history at cathal brugha barracks requesting some witness statements, which are now acsessible to the general public. i know of some people who have also requested and consequently recieved their statements fairly promptly.now after umpteen more written requests, unanswered phone calls, and ignored phone messages, ongoing in the past 6 months,i have heard nothing, silence. what,s going on. is there a massive backlog or something, i imagine there is a simple explanation somewhere, but i need to know. it,s the not knowing that is frustrating. so please is there anyone out there that can enlighten me, i would be truly grateful, thanks. by the way, i think this is a very good website.

MessageTo any body interested in acquiring information on relatives or any one involved in the war of independence, write to, officer in command military archives, cathal brugha barracks, rathmines, Dublin 6 Ireland. Over 1700 witness statements were made to the bureau, my grandfather did and may be yours too, i was delighted to read things i never knew about him and his involvement. It may take some time for a request, you need to give as much info as you can about the person,it took me about 6 weeks to receive them, and i have acquired 4 more since. the bureau was set up in 1947-1957 and the witness statement's were released in 2003 to the public. It is a great service, also i have a list of all the names of the people who made these statements, please feel free to email me for a name. [email protected]

MessageMy grandfather was Michael Casey who participated on the barracks attacks on Carrigtohill & Cloyne in 1920.

Was wondering if anyone would have more information on these attacks whilst also trying to determine which battalion he was part of which would be greatly appreciated.

MessageI can provide a photograph of Dan "Sandow" O'Donovan if required for the "Who's Who" page.

"Sandow" was my grand-uncle (as already mentioned in previous message). Please note also his surname is O'Donovan, not Donovan.

I can be contacted by email at [email protected]

MessageHerbert and Walter Mitchell were from Rahan, Co. Offaly. In fact they are from a lock-keeper's house which has been in the Mitchell since the construction of the Grand Canal in the 1780's. The lock is known as "Mitchells' Lock".
I would like to know of Herbet/Sean's activities in Cork. Connie Neenan was a close friend and godfather to my uncle.

MessageI'm hoping to visit the place of my ancestors - some of whom I believe took part in the Anglo-Irish War. The name of the village is Ahiohill. Anyone know in which part of Cork it is situated? Thanks.
