MessageJo,
Thanks for your comments regarding the site. The one reference I came across regarding the name you mentioned is in page 24 of 'Rebel Cork's Fighting Story'. The squad referred to below was based in Cork city.

'The IRA Intelligence Squad consisting of Jeremiah O'Brien, Denis Hegarty, Frank Mahony, Jim Fitzgerald, Bob Aherne and Mick Kenny was well informed of the activities of enemy intelligence personnel'.

MessageI'd just like to re-iterate what many have said before me, its a great site! I've just started my search and so far I haven't found a great deal online, this is the best by a long chalk.
My grandfather Jeremiah (Jerh) O'Brien, born 1900 was a volunteer somewhere in Cork. Not sure which brigade or battalion. As far as I know he was captured at some point and along with a few others dug out of prison and then sent to the US - I'm trying to fill in the blanks where and when this all happened. I noticed on a previous post you were able to find a volunteer on the listings at the cemeterey. I know for sure my grandfather is buried in St Finbarrs in Cork, possibly in the republican plot as he had a gun salute at his funeral. Anyway if you have any info on my grandfather or even tips where I might find some info specifically about him, I'd be thrilled to get a proper start. Many thanks, Jo

MessageHi, only just found your website after looking for quite a while on the web. Like many of your visitors, I am researching my grandfather`s involvement in the war of independance and threrafter. His name was Patrick Christopher McCarthy, also sometimes known as "Whacker McCarthy". Only details I have (From his obituary) are that he was an Intelligence Officer of "S" Company, 2nd Battalion IRA. Born 1898 and died in 1950. He also played for Nils Desperandum Football team during 1915-20 and was Team Treasurer and secretary in 1929. Only problem is I cannot find any references to an "S" Company in any of the Cork Brigades?

MessageI am looking for a copy of the book "Kiskeam Against the Empire". My grandfather's house was a safe house in Kiskeam and I am interested in doing some reading as the living relations don't speak much about the past.

MessageJust to reply to Keiran there if I can be of any help. The military archives in dublin are closed at preent which is why you probably haven't heard back from them. However, the National Archives centre in Dublin hold copies of all the witness statements contained within the BoMH.

MessageFaith, thanks for your interest in this website which I prefer to maintain anonymously.

Regarding the map referred to, I'm not sure exactly at this stage where it was sourced, but I believe it appeared in 'Rebel Cork's Fighting Story', among other publications.

MessageI am currently doing research on the Coolavokig ambush and I'm keen to know the provenance of the map that you have in your article as I have a similar map but know not where it comes from. Also, could you contact me with your name as I would like to be able to reference your work correctly.

Thanks you vey much
