MessageSpent 18 years working for BT, joined on one of the last apprenticeship schemes they ran. Enjoyed reading these pages as reminded myself of when i first joined back in 1987, Although probably not quite as good as the sixties or seventies. But very much like the stories that were told by my peers of their experiences. and usually riotously funny.
This change like they always do, but even now there are not many workplaces left that you get that sense of being part of a large family. Which even after leaving i still have now, meeting old colleagues quite frequently.

MessageHi Dennis,
Stumbled across your great website! I am a Grandaughter of Brown Magill of Killyleagh and Shrigley. Grandad was employed as a driver for Herdmans who owned Killyleagh mill. As a child I grew up on stories about Killyleagh and Shrigley, and Hanna was a name that I heard From time to time. I was born in Belfast in 1939, and am the eldest born to Matilda (Tillie)Magill, daughter of the above Samuel Brown Magill.
Best Wishes, Daphne (Dilys)

jj and myself often talk about things from the old days in killyleagh....do you remember any of the old shops?.....annie caugheys john fitzsimons paper shop...martha edgars....fred hamiltons...redmond denvirs(deadman renvir)...he could reach everything behind the counter from the stool he sat on.

funniest story from those days......joker morrison walking through the town one afternoon...bumps into the reverend boggs....the reverend says "drunk today again joker?"........quick as a flash joker retorts...."so am i reverend...so am i".....

MessageHi Dennis, Great site.Brought back lots of memories for me. I spent 2 weeks every July in Shrigley every year in the late 40's early 50's with the Morgans who lived in Short Row not far from the famous clock. They were relations of mine. We walked the mile into Killyleagh and back just to spend time at the harbour.and i enjoyed every minute of my stay there.I always cried when i had to go back to Belfast...oh happy days!Have promised myself for years to visit again..maybe this year ..who knows. But i would dearly love to find the morgans again. Many thanks for the nostalgia and praises for your site its wonderful well done.

MessageI well remember changing a a tyre on the Commer `Two Man Circus` van. It was two years old and done. As we raised the jack, the bodywork crumbled under the weight of...?...two ladders and a dispenser. What a heap of shite!
