Message | Phenominal piece of historical research. Most impressive. Thank you for doing the work. I also have been a Deep Purple fan since 1972, the Machine Head album broke, concurrently to the Jesus Christ Superstar mania, with Ian Gillan singing as JC. I was only nine. Thankfully I was in a big family and my older brother and sisters were bringing home all these great albums. It is gratifying to know I'm not the only one with such a passion for this amazingly talented band.
Did the high school rock and roll guitar thing, and grew deeper into rock and roll roots, history, etc. When I put the Purple on with this perspective, I was amazed at how GOOD they were. They left most of the pack of loud bands eating dust and they improvise on stage, playing off one another, as jazz musicians do.
Finally got to see the mk2 revisited in 1987, and it didn't disappoint. Amazing rhythm section, screaming energy, and they do it effortlessly. Ian was ON! I have seen that someone has a recording of this gig, in Phoenix. I would be grateful if anyone can help me get to it.
Thankfully they keep touring, all over the planet, and Steve Morse was an awesome choice for a guitarist as his versatility lends itself to the bands broad range. Thanks to all. See you at one of their shows |
