Message1961 - 1963 ABHAN on flight deck. Division 1. Repair 8. I have seen several names on here I recognize but can't figure out how to get in touch. I would really love to see some pics out of the Med Cruise book of 1962!

MessageI was on the Randolph starting in 1960 and ending on May 31, 1962. I was in V-3 division (plane pusher)and remember our being the recovery ship for Glenn and Grissom. Also, the collision at sea with the "spy ship" was scary. I had never seen so many officers faces turning white. Also, I believe I was part of a landing party when we were near Cuba during the missile crisis. My buddies were Barry Bock and Frank Maresco.

MessageI reported to the USS Randolph in December 1964 from EM A-school while the ship was in dry-dock. I remember standing a couple of mid-watches and was given 2 baloney sandwiches (seemed fine at the time). I don't know what I was looking for or guarding against but I completed my watch. I worked in Distribution for 1st Class Blosser who was a demanding but a fair boss. Left in 1966 with a herniated disc in my back and missed a north atlantic cruise. To this day, I wish I never went to sick bay. In 1967 I served on the USS Shangri-La CVA-38 as an EM2 until I was released in Greece to fly back to New York for separation. I will always remember my time on the Randolph and the personnel in E Division that I served with.
