Message | Also a genuine Thurman Munson fan. Was stationed in the Navy over in Guam when his plane crashed. I was stunned and definetly shed my share of tears. He was a great team player, which of course made THE choice for "team captain". We needed more baseball players with his character, not only then but for sure today. With the commissioner and owners turning a blind eye to our illegal substance issues, Thurman would have taken care of any of these problems in the clubhouse. This of course would have gotten press only because guys like Steinbrenner would have tried to impress their will, looking of course for more money at the gate. Thurman HAS been overlooked. Like your information says, his lifetime stats along with World Series stats should gain him enough appreciation to rightfully be honored in the "Baseball Hall of Fame". |
