MessageYour insights on this blog helped me solve a frustrating networking problem on Nov 29. A new laptop would not cooperate in joining my XP home network. The solution came when I found that two firewalls were running, the Windows firewall and one from Symantec that came with the new laptop.

Disabling the Symantec firewall did the trick. Thanks for your help!

MessageThanks for tips on realigning sidebar. I followed your advice and checked out each posting and did find the problem posting. I love using slideshows and most of them work just fine, but for some reason one caused the problem. I just went to slide.com and resized that particular slideshow and then edited the posting and all was fixed. Thank you.

MessageHi Chuck,

I'm in N. Calif too (Berkeley). I'm a volunteer with Stem Cell Action Network, www.stemcellaction.org and we're trying to create a blog to network grassroots advocates of the research across the country. So, I enlisted beta blogger to help advance this cause. Well, I have made some progress -- see www.barglow.com/blog.htm.

But I just don't understand the template layout and can find little documentation for it.

I tried posting to a blogger help group, but my posting didn't even show up, as far as I can tell!

I need your help and am willing to pay for it.

Here are the problems with the blog I've designed so far:

1. The banner starts below the top of the screen. I'd like to close this space.

2. The banner is a single graphic that I created in photoshop. Is there any way to make the 5 small rectangular graphics near the bottom into hot spots that can be linked to organizational websites? (I tried splitting the banner into two parts, as in the web page --not created using blogger-- www.barglow.com/scanblog. And this enabled me to make the small images -- independent images that I placed in a table -- hot spots linked to various websites. How can I do this effectively in blogger?)

3. You might have other ideas about making this blog useful and effective.

Well, I'm sure you've got plenty else to do, other than helping me make this thing work. But I'll appreciate your assistance if you can give it.

MessageChuck, you are a bright light out of the quicksand of HTML madness. Your instructions are always clear, and you're good at anticipating what newbies are looking for (going through) without being condescending. Are you married?

Just kidding!

Anyway, thanks a heck of a lot!

MessageChuck

I have a blogger account. My blog is reached at http://www.siteideas.net/iraqafghanistan.htm

It seems to be working with a few glitches. But what I cannot get around is the fact that at the end of a post there is no "add a comment" or similar message, and of course there are no comments.

I have looked at the template and at the view that gives me the source code for the site. But I cannot seem to figure out how to add the lines that are missing from my site that would give me "comments". Any help would be appreciated.

Ray Gastil

Hi Ray,

The most likely situation is that you haven't enabled comments. Go to Settings - Comments, and select Show. If that doesn't help, please post in Blogger Help Group: How Do I?, and we should be able to sort you out.

Chuck
