Message | HiHugo, Actually i had a good time while in Bad Hersfeld. The alerts we had wern't much fun as a rule. I had a 50 cal. ring mount on my 5 ton trk so of course i had the 50 cal. machine "gun" to deal with plus the tripod and my personal weapon, an M-14. A lot of stuff to run up the hill with. The snack bar was a a popular place to bug out, never knowing when someone would come in and ask questions as to why we are in there. The chopper hit hard, I never heard if the pilot survived or not. The gas dump fire was spectacular as 5 gal GI cans full of gas exploded and were sent all directions, some smashing into the steel link fence surrounding the dump and were stuck fast to the fence with their bottoms blown off. Heads rolled over that mess. On guard duty, one of the guys in the guard house was playing with his 45 and managed to shoot a hole through his hand, another fun time. I have a lot of interesting experiences that I still remember. The night I left for "THE WORLD" Foxy gave me a huge Bad Hersfeld flag he took off of a flag pole downtown as a going away gift. I had it for several years before sending it back to Hersfeld. Dang, so many memories,,,,. Anyone care to email me?? Do it! [email protected], CYA! bob muir |
