MessageVery well done and easy to use. My grandfather Patrick came over from Cork as a young boy with atleast one brother and one sister in the 1850's. I wonder if Sean Moylan could be a relative?

MessageFor some time now there has been a concerted effort to tarnish the reputation of these men (Sinead Joy is the latest to jump on the Hart, Myers, Harris bandwagon with her book 'The IRA in Kerry').

This site helps redress the balance. Well done!

MessageJust found this site. The Cork people were, and still are, a great inspiration to me growing up as young lad in west Belfast during the worst excesses of British Terrorism in the 70s and 80s. It is because of the great legacy left by these brave men and women and the courage and daring of the soldiers of Oglaigh na hEireann in the latest phase of our struggle that we will be free:

Raise the brave battalions who fought the Black and Tans
From the Liffey, Nore and Shannon
From the Lagan, Suir and Bann
All honour to those heroes who for duty did report
But the best of all our soldiers were the
BOYS FROM THE COUNTY CORK

VICTORY TO THE IRISH PEOPLE

MessageFreedom fighter honoured in Bweeng ...

'A LARGE crowd gathered in the summer sunshine in Bweeng last Monday night to remember a local hero who played a significant role in the Irish War of Independence. The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht unveiled a plaque dedicated to the memory of Eamonn Waters, who was shot and killed by the Black and Tans in Naad on March 3, 1927.'

This report was published in a County Cork newspaper last week. And we all thought the Tans had left by 1921/22!!

we've become soft and they're taking full advantage painting us into a corner of peaceful impotence.400 years we fought.400 more years is no fucking problem.interesting site. smilie

MessageProceedings of a Court of Inquiry assembled at Bandon on the 21 st March 1921 by order of Lt. Col. F.W. Moffitt D.S.O. Commanding 1/Essex Rgt. for the purpose of investigating the circumstances under which an unknown civilian was shot dead in conflict with the Crown Forces at Ballinphellic north of Crossbarry Co. Cork, on 19th March 1921 ...

2nd Witness:
Major A.C. Hallahan I/Essex Rgt being duly sworn states:-
At Ballinphellic north of Crossbarry on 19th March 1921 at about 6.00 hrs. I proceeded in command of a party to search the farm of a Mr. Ford. About 06-30 hrs I warned Sgt. Poole that I was going to the house, and ordered him to the back door ... I forced the front door open with my foot and as I did so, I was immediately fired at by a man standing about two yards away at the foot of the stairs. I fired back and was again fired at, and was hit on the right chest and knocked sideways round the door. I then fired two more shots, and had another shot fired at me, which missed. The man then bolted to the back door. I followed and shouted to Sgt. Poole to look out. The man rushed out of the back door firing at Sgt. Poole as he went. Sgt. Poole fired back and shot him dead through the head.

A.C. Hallahan Major 1/Essex Rgt.

MessageYou mention a Major Hallinan at Crossbarry. Meda Ryan cals him Hallahan. Which is correct?
I am trying to trace records of those arrested and interned duing the Troubles. My grandfather was arrested three times and was interned in Cork Barracks. I have failed so far to make any progress.I tried Collins Barracks, PRO London, etc

Can anyone suggest where I might get information?
