MessageI had the great fortune of meeting Mr. Tompkins at an IFL weigh-in event in Chicago a few years back. I met a bunch of fighters and trainers that day, but Mr. Tompkins has always stood out to me as one of the nicest and warmest people I've ever met. I'll never forget him and I pray he's in a better place.

MessageShawn Tompkins was one of those guys you look up too as a young fighter. When he was training Mark Hominick when Hominick was 18 years old or so he was training him in a makeshift ring in an apartment. I relate to it because when I was 18 I wasn't much different, I started training MMA in a basement with some of the Local pro fighters before we got our own gym. It wasn't pretty but it worked, and that's what it is all about. If I become even half the man that Shawn was then I will be proud to be who I am. He was a great man and his Legacy will go down in history, never to be forgotten.
Best wishes,
Matt Green

MessageIt is with deep sadness and respect that I write this.
I am one if the officials with the OAC and first met him on April 2nd, 2011 at the 1st MMA event in Ontario. I was the equipment judge for Chris Horidecki. Shawn was respectful and handled himself exceptionally that night.
The next time I saw him it was at UFC 129. I was assigned to Aldo and after the fight, in the medical area, he came up to me, shook my hand.
I saw Shawn at the MMA event last Saturday. I was judging and after one of the fights I looked over and saw him. He nodded, I nodded.

I never thought that would be the last time I saw him.

Shawns passing, at such a young age, has made me want to be better...

A better man, dad, son, teacher, trainer, official, martial artist, husband, and a person...
