I have Chiari type 1 but I recently experience a dull pain in my lower back region which is now radiating up through other parts of my body. I would love to know if anyone else has experienced this and like to know if it has anything to do with Syringomelia. I also have a shivering feeling.
Many thanks

Had decompression in 89' with a shunt put in at that time cause I had a large syrnix. Have some cord damage but manage to deal with life fairly well. More surgery due to cervical fusions (2) and sciolosis but holding my own with great family support. Found others in my area and now belong to a support group which unfortunately has too many.

If you have Chiari, what is your primary symptom?
slurred speech, trouble swallowing, NO headaches?
Message
Would sure like to find "others" with my symptoms, as bulbar als or neurological lymes are my alternative diagnosis. Just find it too coincidental my cine MRI shows blockage and I had rough chiropractic adjustments around the same time frame, and, it was a fairly sudden onset. Many sites say slurred speech and trouble swallowing are symptoms, but I don't see others knocking on this door?

I was correctly diagnosed in November 2009 at age 48.My primary care physician was the one that finally diagnosed me with Chiari I Malformation and hydrocephalus after being told by a neurologist that I had no neurological problems.I have had 8 shunt surgeries in Augusta, GA (several were due to an infection in my brain)and one Chiari Decompression surgery at Emory in Atlanta,GA.All of these surgeries were performed beginning 11/2009 and the last one was the decompression surgery in 2/2011.I have great doctors and I am now dealing with all the other problems that come along with Chiari.
