MessageChanced across the site while doing some research. Did my "A" and "C" school in San Diego in summer of 1975. Went on to RM gang on board USS Kamehameha SSBN 642 after Sub School. Was able to get my 2348 and 2304 during my hitch on the 642. BT AR

Went to boot in San Diego, RMA in San Diego, first assignment was Comphibgru-1 1968-1971, then ships company USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2). ETSed and went to USNR and finally to Army Reserves for better advancement... retired there. Looking for RM2 Jack Byron... probably RM1 or RMC? Regards, Dennis

MessageHello fellow ROCKsters. I was there in "74". was aboard the USS Davidson outta Pearl before that. I honestly wasn't all that fond of Keflavik but I did have a good time there especially the "BEER JUGS' to Denmark, Norway, etc. I heard the base is long gone, I feel certain we will be back. I left the navy in 1982 after 10 years. after I left Iceland was on USS Saratoga, USS Independence, NAS Jax. I really enjoyed the navy, it ws just time to go, but I'd do it again in a heart beat. The one thing I took with me was my 1st class FCC license. Have been in broadcasting since 1972 and YES i do remember those Q and Z signals..morse code..reading tty tape. We all did a good thing while there..we should be proud of our service. I'm too old now so I guess I have to trust the young sailors to "carry on". We all will carry on. I especially remember the ROD and GUN club...with the taco's and the OMG sauce...it really was.
THANKS NAVY...
