Message | Hi! I found Boris Kovač on Imeem.com and love the sound - which led me to your blog. Here's a story for you: My grandfather left Nagybečskerek, Hungary in 1905 with his uncle and cousin, making their way to Winnipeg, Canada. My grandmother followed in April 1913 and they were married in Canada. I've been told our family name is Czech, although my grandparents considered themselves Hungarian and travelled with Hungarian passports. I have their passports (printed in alternating pages of German and French)! I enjoy reading Magyar Muse, a book of poetry translated from Hungarian into English. A map in the book shows the Hungarian territory absorbed into other countries. I see that Nagybečskerek was absorbed into the former Yugoslavia and is now the city of Zrenjanin in Serbia. Enough to give anyone an identity crisis! Cheers, Eva, Timmy and Emmett in Vancouver |
