MessageDear Julia and Steve,
So good to hear from you again ... we were wondering if all was well. Steve, Mark has an offer for you ... he said he's willing to make a trade of the 5th wheel trailer for 2 mountain bikes! He's had more than enough of this little adventure ... it's been 5 months now in the 5th wheel and no, this is not like camping, not when it extends on for this long! Still we are more than happy to be here (in the rain and occasional sunshine zone) versus Calgary's reported -50C weather 2 days ago!!! Soon, soon, this will all be a memory for all of us ... once we're in the house you'll have to come out for a visit! Did I mention Mark is house hunting this weekend as I redo my woodcut for printmaking class (a long story but basically a chunk of it fell off on my last cut (grrr), so I get to carve it all over again). We are still having a good time out here though ... looking forward to a house ... all I want right now is a long hot bubble bath, 5th wheel showers are pretty small and short (I still haven't mastered it and run out of hot water before conditioner is out of my hair and as a result get to rinse off in freezing cold water everyday ... you'd think sooner or later I could get it right! Take care, ease up on the mystery meats Steve. We still think you are both amazing, brave, and the most adventurous pair of friends we've ever had!
Love, Mark and Rebecca smilie smilie

MessageHi Steve and Julia,
Last I heard you were stranded in New Zealand trying to get out to Argentina (stranded in a hotel at the airport while Argentinian airports rioted and went on strike). Hopefully you have now gotten out and are well on your way touring throughout Argentina! I'm back at school for the second semester and Mark is working for a big electrical company ... we're hoping to buy our house within the next few weeks, but we may be going a bit further south (to Parksville) which is great in terms of location, but a bit of a commute if I am going to continue on at NIC next year ... we'll see. This semester finds me with an even huger workload than last and while I am still enjoying and marvelling at this opportunity ... it is a tremendous amount of work and sometimes I find creativity being sucked right out of me as I strive to simply get assignments done. There is so much to learn ... I'm in printmaking, pottery, drawing and painting as well as good old Art History (yuck on that one- how can you tell it's not my favorite!) We continue to think of you, pray for your safety, and marvel about your adventures ... you have covered so many many miles and cultures. Keep having fun ... keep safe ... enjoy the weather ... it's pleasant here on the Island but I hear Alberta is a bit snowy and cold (Penny said the kids were in school for sometime last week because it was so cold). Take care,
Mark and Becky

MessageHey Steve & Julia, been following your trek. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be with you and then when I read some of the trouble I think "NOT" but for the most part you seem to be enjoying your trip. Do wish I could be there to experience it all though. Guess you might not make it to New Zealand to see Nick Hill. He;s there until January 7, 2008.

until we see you at home again, take care.

MessageMerry Christmas Steve and Julia,
We're not sure just where this note will find you but wherever you are we hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We sent a cute e-card thanks to Hallmark; we tried to record our own voices (just joking) to bring you some Christmas cheer. Have a wonderful holiday season ... we continue to think of you daily and pray for your continued good health and safety. I've just finished school (today); we had our last critique this morning (in 2D drawing). I think I've done okay ... it was funny though, everyone first talks about each piece of art, then the instructor talks and then the artist talks ... this morning during my 15 minutes of fame the class talked a lot about the piece, then the instructor stopped them and I talked (but she didn't); later on at the end of the class I approached her 1:1 and asked what she thought of the piece because she hadn't made one comment on it (which is very unusual). Her response was that the piece was so compelling and moving she had nothing to say at that moment ... that I had done an exquisite job and that it was a very confrontational image but in a good way ... I had blown her away. So, wow, I'm more than happy with that! Anyway, we're on holidays now ... not sure if we're going away anywhere ... we'll probably spend Christmas at Mom's in Nanaimo. Take care ... find some turkey somewhere out there to eat on Christmas!
Love, Mark and Rebecca
