MessageHywel,
Alexandro Rigas just announced on the Martha_Argerich yahoogroup that they will broadcast the Rome concert live, with Argerich listed as the pianist, February 9.

Alex and Sarah, the Reading cancellation received a lot of notice but I've not heard anything yet about the rest of the UK yet.

Alex, thanks for the info on Collard for the Reading concert in May. Good luck to everyone.

MessageHello all,

Thanks Andrys for your message. I have contacted the RFH in London and like Hywel, was told that it is still going ahead (even though I have heard otherwise).
As for Reading, I have not even received a letter regarding the cancellation, just observed it on the website.

Elias- sounds like you had a wonderful time!

Best to everyone,

Sarah

MessageI have heard Martha Argerich has withdrawn from her 2009 UK engagements.
Her replacement for the 2 May concert in Reading is to be Jean-Philippe Collard. I don't know if he is fulfilling her other UK engagements.

MessageGreetings from London,

Does anyone have any information on next weekend's Beethoven 1 in Rome. I happen to be going to Rome for the weekend and wondered if this is cancelled too? I have tickets for the first concert on the Saturday evening.

Yes, it's a huge shame about the UK dates in April and as of today (Sunday 1 Feb) the South Bank still has her listed on its website. I wrote to them when I received the cancellation letter from Reading but the reply said they had not yet been told of any cancellation but impling not to hold breath.

All best,

Hywel

MessageThanks for the great work. I was wondering if it might be possible to get a copy of the Murray Khouri's "Pressing On" for Radio New Zealand. I heard it awhile ago and thought I saved a copy but can find it no longer. A friend in New Zealand asked RNZ to replay it on a request show but they said it is no longer cached at the request of Khouri.

A group of us here bought many Hatto cds and regret buying none of them. That the original pianists lost out in the end is obviosuuly troublesome and it is amazing charges were not laid. One has to admit WBC had incredibly good taste and his compilation of the Brahms Paganinis is more than remarkable.

Another release from WBC was Fiorentino's Liszt Transcendentals. No one has mentioned these others recordings of which the Fiorentino is but one. At the time WBC said he had discovered missing etudes in a 30 year old warehouse in Los Angeles (is there a building in LA 30 years old?) and was therefore able to issue the 12 etudes complete. There were glowing reviews and congratulations for his sleuthing. These Transcendental are suspect too I would think. I'd be interested in any observations on these other recordings and the Liszt in poarticular that you or others have made.

With thanks

John

MessageElias,
Congratulations on such a fine night !
Thanks for telling us about it.

Yes, that was useful but I did have the information a week earlier in an email and forgot to post it in time. I've included it for the record (of the past at this point) but it's good to know she was adding that one.

Thank you!

MessageSarah,
Here is the contact page for the RPO

www.rpo.co.uk/contact.php

You can ask them. Her not doing the Reading concert doesn't necessarily mean that she is not doing the London dates, but at least you can find out from them. They have phone and email contact capability there. Good luck!

MessageI have booked to see Martha at London's Royal Festival Hall; her name is still displayed on the website but I'm presuming all British dates are cancelled. I'm so disappointed; she would have been playing my favourite Prokofiev too!

Does anyone know the circumstances of her recent ill health?

Best to everyone-

Sarah

MessageHello. I just came back from the Lausanne Metropole concert hall in Lausanne Switzerland, where I saw Argerich in concert. It was magnificent. I even got her autograph and got to shake her hand. I'm still very amazed right now. It will be a night I will always remember. I just wanted to tell you that the same concert will be given on the 28th of January in Gstaad Switzerland.
