MessageHi!
Just want to say many, many, many Thanks to you for creating this site. I've beeen a folkfreak for ages now and I've allways admired the five-string-banjo played in the style of Pete Seeger and Deroll Adams. Never had time to learn it, in fact. Now, getting more grey-haired (53) I'm making a try again and I was looking around for help. As there are lots of links to Pete Seeger, I hardly found something about Deroll Adams. And by luck I found your site yesterday! That's what I've been looking for the last few years. Thanks a lot once again and I'm quite sure that your site will help me to spent some wonderful hours in memory of Deroll Adams.
Yours
Dieter

MessageThanks heaps for this. I was a big fan of Derrol's 25-30 years ago, and am just getting back into playing the banjo myself. You've saved months of research. Much appreciated!

Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan...e.a.

MessageHello,
During the 1950's I met Derroll and Jack in London a number of times, and watched and listened to them at "The Ballads and Blues Association" in Soho, I also went to a concert, I think it was the Odeon in Tottenham Court Road, London, but after over 50 years I wouldn't stake my life on it!
I still have my copy of their Album that I bought that night, unfortunately my brother has it in storage at present ,but I think it was "The Rambling Boys"
Although I rember most of what they played and sang but I remember Derroll very clearly singing " I wish I was a Rock" that has stuck in my brain and everytime I think of him this little simple ditty pops up!
I still have a few photos, but mostly of Jack but at least one of the two of them playing together.
Back in those days I used to play in a skiffle group, first playing a Tea Chest but later a double Bass, I also used to play in a Jazz Band, but eventually the Bass had to go to help fund my Wedding in 1964.
I originally had more photos, but I sent them to Peggy Seeger and Ewan McColl to look at, but I never got them back smilie
Thinking about it, somewhere I must still have the negatives, though heaven alone knows where!
Rummaging through some old papers the other day, I came across a number of folk related magazine/song books from the late 1950's, I have 5 copies of 'sing' Ranging from June/July 1956 to December 1959, this last has a picture of Jack and June Elliot with Pete Seeger on the front cover.

MessageCame across your site via Uncle Gil's Rockin' Archive. Really enjoy Darroll's work, and appreciate your devotion to a particular banjo style and/or player.

I also like that you referenced Pete Segeer's "Basic Stroke" in the how-to area. Pete's "How To Play the 5-String Banjo" is still in print and might be useful to anybody interested in "folk" banjo.

A bientôt.
