MessageI am the network administrator for my laboratory's firewall Windows workgroup network that consists of over 40 computers. Your website allowed me to accurately troubleshoot a number of file and printer sharing issues on the network.

Because of the clear and logical network troubleshooting guide on your website, I was even able to discover and correct the obscure "irpstacksize" issue that kept my home network from operating correctly.

Thank you for such an excellent resource for Windows networks!

MessageHi

I've been wrestling with my Internet Service since I got it. Cable connection 40Mb/2Mb. The connection works about 5 days a week (random days..) and is busted for the remaining 2.

Needless to say how much hair I have lost

smilie

Every time I call the company about the line, they 1st do nothing. Need more complains, they say. Still, after couple of days, their technician calls me and says (almost every time..) "I have adjusted couple of servers/routers..there were some minor problems.."
I have reported problems so often that now we are good friends with that technician smilie

He has always said to me, "if you only had taken some proof/visible data...". Well, next time I will. Thanks to your clear and covering articles and links.

Very nice and useful site. Thank you.

MessageI have a question about Netbios over TCP/IP. Where I work, we just downed the Novell Server. We have an NT 4 Server that has Engineering files on it. One Server is Novell, one is NT 4.Server. When an Engineer would open a folder on the NT Server and look for a file, the hour glass would scan back and forth, back and forth, for up to a minute and a half. Large amount of files. Until I bulleted Disable Netbios over TCP/IP. Then, the files would come almost instantaneously. Ok, now, we've shut down the Novell Server and gone to a new Windows Server 2003. But, now, the drive mapping to the NT 4 Server disappeared until I bulleted Default Use Netbios setting from the DHCP server. The drive mapping to the NT Server came back and the Engineers could access it but, the hour glass scans back and forth, back and forth....many seconds to a few minutes.....Help!!!

MessageThank you for the excellent information on file shares between Win98 and XP/Vista. I have been fighting with this for hours, and feel like I tapped out the information at Microsoft. Between the NTLM update to Win98 and allowing network access to the non-guest account via local security, I finally got it to work.
