MessageCould you tell me where Highland Creek is/was located in relation to Cherrywood? I have records referring to that community but can not find it on a map

MessageHi Larry. My family originated in Cherrywood, my grandfather being born there in 1884. One of his sons stayed there (Newton) and the rest came west. I did visit Cherrywood once and saw the home they lived in. My cousin Emma is a music teacher in Cobalt Ontario and keeps her family home in Pickering as well. She may have retired lately as I have not heard from her for a while. She is single. I would love to know more about the community and how the Laughlin family impacted its fabric. Very interesting photos. Good work and good for you.

MessageI just found out about this site from Kim Roberts, it is great. When we were kids in Martins Subdivision we could never get enough of the Morrishes store. All the candy you could get for a nickel back then we use to buy a bag of gum and load it in our mouths in one go just to see if we could...
The Savages now all live in the Whitby area, unfortunatley my dad passed a way 3 and a half years ago from cancer but my 2 older brother ( Mike and Terry)live just up the street from me in the Almond subdivision. It is so much like Martins it's uncanning Lisa Culetta nee: savage

Messagesmilie Thanks for letting me know about your site Larry! Think this is great that old friends can get in touch after all these years. I grew up on Cherrywood Avenue at the other end of the road from you Larry.(mom's still there) Always have great memories of Cherrywood. Remember being able to take the bus to Cherrywood school but we all would rather walk! My dad use to whistle for my brother James and I to come home at night and we would be out there playing ball tag around the whole sub or british bull dog in the Gadsden's back yard. Great times great memories.smilie Thanks again !

MessageDear Larry,
I think you are Paul's older brother (Dolly) and there is another - Mark I think
I am 3rd kid of 4 belonging to the Boal clan. Older sisters Pam and Rosemary and younger brother Clifford. We lived on 2 farms in Cherrywood, one on Rosebank next to Armstrongs, behind McCains. The other on sideline 34 off concession 3 in the white farm across from your house. My grandfather sold the land for the back road in Martins subdivision. In fact my family owned close to 700 acres over 5 farms that were expropriated. I am looking for any possiblility to fight except I dont know how.
I would dearly love to be in contact with old friends from Cherrywood, and I see Jimmy on your blogsite, his family - father Mac and sister Carol were so good to us. My father adored Mac. I have an uncanny memory for everyone, and I encourage you to share my contact details with anyone. After living in many places, I am back in Durham living in Whitby.
I miss the farms, my horses, the hours and hours we all spent out of doors discovering. I miss halloween at the subdisvision. I miss how tired I used to get and how well I slept after bringing in hay all day ! How there was kissing tag in the corn fields and absolutely nothing to worry about.
I am truly grateful and blessed to have grown up in such a magical place.
Thanks Larry, I won't lose touch now

Susan

MessageHello I went to Cherrywood Public School from 1952 to 1959. When I was there, there was 68 kids in all 8 grades---a good chunk of the population was the Wilkinson family--a child in every grade. There are many of the kids that I grew up with that I have never forgotten---some that come to mind are Colin King, Annette Little, Paulette Riches, Emma Laughlin, Billy Petty, Gary, Ricky Jackie and Jill Higgins (their dad Wally Higgins, was one of the two local policemen in the very early 1950's), Jim Bridgmeman, Jim Raycraft, Fred Shepstone, Frank, Sylvia and Russell Sypher, Dianne Connors, Robin Smart, Margaret Milne, Lorne Milne, Dorothy Roberge. Unfortunatley we tend to drift apart as we go on our own personal adventures. Yesterday we were a bunch of kids trying to get enough people together for a game of baseball at recess, and today we are grandparents staring retirement in the face. I joined the military in 1963 and did not return until 1968, and in that short period of time most of the people that I had grown up with were now gone---moved on with their own lives somewhere else. Colin King and I were very good friends in grade three, but drifted apart for about 50 years, recently Colin found me again and we have had a really good time together as old friends should, for which I am very grateful. For any of the kids that are out there that should read this, please get in touch.
Again, thank you for the website.

MessageI really think this is a great site. Although its been so many years since I went to Cherrywood, I truly loved going there and cherished many friends I had there. I wish they'd all write it to let us know they are still around.

Just saw Colin's name on there. I was so glad to to see his name on the website. Also, I too have lost Paulette's e-mail because my computer broke down with everyone's e-mail on it.

MessageThanks for the great blog on Cherrywood. I attended PS #7 from 1952 until 1956. Not a long time now, but an eternity to an 8 year old.

Thanks to this blog I have been reunited with some of my old classmates from fifty years ago, Andy and Pete Axhorn, Paulette Riches and Jane Myers. BTW Paulette, I have lost your e-mail. If you should read this, please get in touch.

The site is growing in leaps and bounds. Keep it up.

Best wishes, Colin
