Message | I have exchanged mail with Al Porreca and Dan Asparmente about tracing my family history and it has been very helpful but has not produced any firm connections yet. My grandfather was named Nicola and was b.1876-according to his gravestone. The family story is that he and his father (name uncertain)went to Argentina to visit a brother/uncle who was an archbishop there. This would have been some time between 1895 and 1900. There was no Archbisop, but there was a Franciscan missionary named Porreca in Argentina at that time who died in 1896 and was fairly famous. The story goes that on the way back from Arg. they stopped to visit relatives in Pennsylvania-probably Phila.-and Nicola met my Grandmother and stayed and married her.He died in 1915. They lived in Pittsburgh. The children who lived to old age, in order of birth were- Vera, Inez, Emil, Julia and Edmund. Anyone with related information? [email protected] |
