MessageHi,
I'm about to publish my university thesis at a local Stockholm publisher. I would be happy to be able to use your photo "She's talking with her hands" on the cover. I cannot offer you any money, but of course the acknowledgement of your name. The picture is not only beautiful, but speaks directly to the topic of my thesis - that is young women who engage in Islam and their negotiations for more space to act and be seen and heard in this world.
Please contact me for more details...
Best,
Pia Karlsson Minganti

MessageHi CharlesFred,
It is really nice to see your beautiful pictures from around the world. I come in here once in a while to read some interesting notes about life far away from me...;-)
However, did you ever hear more about Marija Serifovic? - I share your interest in her, and I don't know how things are happening for her at the moment?..

Keep up the good work;-) Regards Smickowitz

MessageHi CharlesFred,
It was really nice reading about your eurovision experiences and your thoughts about Marija Serifovic. Actually, I have seen her tonight in Copenhagen at a live performance (her 6 day tour), and she sang as great as in the Contest.

I really dig your comments about her and your blog in general, and BTW - impressive photogallery..!!

Messagecharles & Fred came across your webpage while researching Hama Syria. I realize it was a long time ago that you were there but my friend Nicole Vienneau has been missing since March 31 2007 while travelling in the area her gear was found at the Cairo Hotel in Hama, she went on a day trip to see the Beehives, Qasr Ibn Wardan and perhaps the Dead Citiies. Can you give any info as to the route she may have taken or the bus lines etc that go that way. Thanks

MessageCharles!!
Again well said!! The horrors of Somalia are all frequently ignored in the Western/US media.
Before starting to read your Blog I was (ashamed)very ignorant of the politics.conflicts of the "Horn of Africa"....

I now have got to know a very charming Somali Lady Refugee (living with her children 2 doors from mine). The fact that SOMEONE in the UK actually knows about this dreadful situation gives her encouragement!!

So thank you!!

nik

MessageHi there,

I came across your blog when I was doing an image church for the ruined Christian church in Sanaa- didn't find it, but I did find your blog. Really entertaining and informative. I have a similar one based on travel and history at
esoteric-traveler dot blogspot dot com (sorry, they're being strict with links, I promise I'm not a spammer!)

Happy travels!

MessageThe stuff you call Bon Cha is actually Bun Cha. Bun is the name of the noodle and Cha is the meatball's name. It is made of pork wrapped with this special kind of leaf of which I dont remember the name. The 'Apple soup' is called 'nuoc cham' - the fish sauce, mixed with water and vinegar, with some hot pepper and some slice of green papaya in it. Hope this helps you understand more about that 'stuff'.
