MessageHi guys, I was assigned to hq & hq troop back in 60-62. I drove a fuel truck and later on a 5 ton cargo truck and made many S-4 trips. A lot of fun but was caught speeding on the autobahn one too many times. Anyone remember james joseph fox aka FOXY? A crazy guy that kept things exciting for all. He was a lot of fun and his Boston accent was a killer.
I was there for 27 months and at one point i was asked if i'd be interested in learning how to fly a chopper as pilots were needed for viet nam. Very happy i said no. I remember a huge fire in the ammo dump as one of the gas truck drivers lit his lighter next to the 5 gal gas cans, just clowning around. What a mess that was! I also took a pic of a two seater chopper as it took off from the parade ground then disappeared down into the officers quarters. A bad crash. Had fun at the international days meeting the soldiers from other countries. Still have a beret from some English guy. It was fun to be there but i started counting down the days and was very happy to leave in April 62.

MessageI was in Squadron Communication from 1968 to 1970. I have a lot of pictures that I am going to post at a later time. I am not sure if anyone remembers me, but I worked the Radio Teletype rigs in both the duce and a halfs and the M577 Command Track. We had our offices at the rear of the squadron Maintenance building. We also ran the communication center in Squadron Headquarters. Everyone had to go there to pick up their SOI's for the radios. There was SP/6 Alexander, Lt. Shellcross. Kenneth Biglane, Anthony Monochello, Bill Lount, Delton Moore, Roger Hill, Kenneth Sablon, Robin Loudon, James Pearson,Dwight Logan,Elbert Sprouse, Ted Van Dine, to mention just a few from the old HHT 3rd Recon Sqdn 14th ACR. Drop me a line, I would like to hear from some of the guys.

MessageHello Fellows;
I was thinking of old times and decided to see what was on the net about McPheeters Barracks smilie . It would be nice if some of the fellows would leave e-mail addresses. I was in the Marine Corp. and got out and came into the Army. I was in Hersfeld from onset of 59 till mid 61 in Hq.Co. Have a photo of the platoon if anyone is interested. My old platoon in Bootcamp has a reunion every year. I would like to have a reunion with some of the old army buddies from Bad Hersfeld. Maybe just find out where some are. I went back over and stayed for 3 years after getting out of the Army. Planned on being a career military man but marriages changes things

MessageI served in L Troop 70-71 and I thought I'd pass along something I found the other day. If you are interested in seeing the Hersfeld and former Border area, download Google Earth which shows satellite photos of the world. Although there is a lot of growth, the Kasserne is still clearly visable as well as the entire region. You can even scroll to the former OP sites. It's a free download and truly worth looking at.
