MessageI couldn't believe the news when I first heard it. I had met Shawn in the past at training seminars and coming out to Vegas on occasion to train with him. I think anyone who ever met Shawn knew walking away from that first conversation that he was the kind of good hearted and loyal person who you could not only depend on but who you hope to emulate in your own life. Humble, patient, and always supportive the lives he touched always left better than when they came in. He is one of those people who’s presence is going to be missed and his loss is going to be felt for years and years to come as I can’t imagine anyone filling the void he has left us with. God bless his family and friends. I know he will be there supporting those he loves as much now from Heaven as he ever did here on earth.

MessageAs a fan of MMA and more importantly a person who has also dealt with the loss of a loved one i want to send my condolences and prayers to all of Shawns friends and to his wife and family. Nothing prepares us for this kind of loss and i hope the words of so many who are thankful that you shared Shawn with all of us can help you in this difficult time. Already so many have signed this and sent out support through words that you can know the impact Shawn had on so many. Cherish the memories and he will be alive in your heart. Again my deepest sympathy.

When I think of a Shawn Tompkins fighter I think of discipline, technique and heart.

Just as an MMA fan I will miss the man and his contributions to the sport.

MessageI first saw Shawn at an IFL event when he took over for Bas. I was initially disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing Bas and I didn't know Shawn. Throughout the event his energy and constant smile made me take notice of how much he enjoyed coaching and seeing his guys perform. Over the years his infectious energy was a constant as he walked fighters out of the tunnel smiling and yelling positives into their ears. One particular memorable time was when he walked Wanderlei out to face Jardine. The look in his eyes told the whole arena that his guy was ready and he couldn't wait to show the world.
I only met Shawn for a couple of days during a Paradise Warrior Retreat in 2009. After admiring his work for a couple of years I was nervous to train with him. The nerves quickly disappeared when he walked into the room with the other coaches and eagerly greeted everyone. It didn't matter if you were a world champion or janitor, he gave everyone the same respect and time. I look forward to getting more tips from him one day and perfecting that liver punch.
