MessageI met Shawn at around 2pm (walking the CNE fair grounds outside the fan expo) on April 30th 2011, the eve of UFC 129. Obviously he was occupied with thoughts of Mark Hominick's fight vs Jose Aldo... but as he passed by me, I said "Hey Coach, got 10 seconds for quick photo and autograph" He smiled at me and said "I got a little longer than that". He chatted with me about getting Mark ready and then finally smiled and said "alright bud, i better run" I was stunned he afforded me the time that he did given the the day and time that it was.

In that short exchange I had with Shawn and then witnessing Mark's performance live later that night at the Rogers Center... Shawn will always be cemented in my memory as a large part of what I would consider one of the best experiences I have ever had, as a hardcore MMA fan and as a person. I will always be an unofficial member of Team Tompkins and I am glad I got to meet him.

God Bless

MessageMy heart goes out to Shawn's family, friends, and those of you who have worked so closely with him over the years. I am so sorry for your loss.
Recently I had the honour of meeting Shawn very briefly at Casino Rama as he kindly obliged my request for a photo. I will never forget how he shook my hand, smiled, and even shared a laugh with my fiance and and I. I will forever cherish this memory and I count myself fortunate to have met such an amazing person.
Thank you Shawn for all you've done. The impact you've had on MMA, and the incredible work you've done with your team. My arms are around your family as they miss you more than I could possibly imagine.

MessagePlease accept my deepest sympathies on your loss. Shawn was a great trainer, but he was more than that. He was a great man who opened himself up to others. His memory lives on through his family and his fighters.

MessageI met Shawn in 2005, and he was one of the nicest people that I met in the MMA world. He's trained some of my friends, and they are better fighters because of him. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. His legacy will live on through each fighter that he has trained. Rest in Peace, Shawn Tompkins.
