| Nachricht | So sad to hear this news- when I knew Bernd he was a big fun full-of-life track runner at BU. I saw him finishing the Boston Marathon up by Kenmore Square, fighting tight hamstrings and getting massive support from the crowd. | Nachricht | Liebe Frau Looft, liebe Familie Trommer, mit großer Bestürzung haben wir vom plötzlichen Tod von ihrem Ehemann und Sohn Kenntnis genommen. Ich konnte diese unglaublich traurige Nachricht kaum glauben und mir wurde erst beim wiederholten Lesen des Berichts klar, dass es sich um Bernd Looft (Trommer) handeln muss. Die Hamburger Leichtathletik und der Hamburger Schulsport verlieren mit Bernd einen tollen Sportsmann. Unsere Gedanken sind bei der gesamten Familie. | Nachricht | Dearest Kiki, I was so shocked when I learned yesterday, and spent the afternoon crying. I could not reconcile my vivid memories of Bernd's joie de vivre, humor and audacity with the knowledge of his passing. I confess it makes me angry to lose a friend so wonderful, so young. But I am trying to reflect on how much more life Bernd packed into his years on this Earth than most do with many more. I am more sorry than I can say. If only I knew a way to mend your broken heart... But please know that you are in my heart, and accept my condolences for you and all of Bernd's loved ones. Kelly |

| Nachricht | I am so sorry. By count, as I reflect, there were not so many times that our lives intersected. At Marathon Sports, in Boston, and years later at a restaurant or apartment in New York City. Still, Bernd made such a great impression in even a short encounter. What grace in how he moved through live, and how much he seemed to enjoy. My hope for the family and friends he held so dear is that you are able to find consolation, even now, in how fully he lived. Although it has been years since I last saw or spoke to him, I will always remember Bernd as a kind and sweet man, who was so positive about life.
