Message | Dear Sue: It was a pleasure to finalIy meet you last Sunday. I can't thank you enough or say enough nice things about the work that was put into this four days of services. Everything was so beautiful and so moving. All these veterans must not be forgotten (not only Viet Nam, but all). We had no idea what to expect, and when we saw the service Friday, my husband and I came back Sunday for the closing. I was so happy that five of John's 17 nieces and nephews were able to attend. Five are in New Jersey, five in North Carolina, one in Massachusetts, one in New Hampshire, two in Oklahoma, one in Arizona, one in Texas, and one deceased. My husband is the only sibling living in New Jersey. His two older sisters live one in North Carolina and one Fla. John was the youngest of six children (two others deceased), so he was everyone's "little brother." John was only 19 when he was killed in Viet Nam, so he never had the opportunity to marry or have children of his own. John's military career was short, but he gave it his all. He went straight to Viet Nam from Basic Training, and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a purple heart in the four months he was serving with the 25th Infantry Division. It's a comfort to know that so many people still care, but a great sorrow to see all those names on the wall. God bless, and thank you. Walt and Kathryn Cartwright |
