MessageRM A School in Bainbridge, MD, 1961-1962 then USS Grasp (ARS-24) at Pearl Harbor till end of hitch (RMSA to RM2) 9-64. Joined USCG 4-65 as RM2. 1st tour at Commsta New Orleans then Lorsta French Frigate Shoals. Made RM1 right after arriving in Seattle (Commcen CCGD13). Back to Commsta New Orleans then Navy RM B School in San Diego. There were 2 Coasties in the class of 13 and we graduated 1st and 2nd (Sorry, fellas). Then off to the CGC Vigorous in New London, across the river from the Submarine Base, Groton. Went to OCS after Vigorous. After OCS, CGC Cherokee (an ex-navy ATF) at Little Creek. Then tours in Long Beach, Phoenix (DeVry) and CG HQ in DC. Retired 3-84 as LT (O-3E). Ended up in Longview, TX. Worked 5 years for Longview Police Dept then 19 1/2 years at Gregg County Sheriff's Office. Retired from Gregg Co on March 31, 2009. Now I spend my time surfing the net, working on web pages, puttering around the house, some light travel, and a part-time job. Had some very memorable times in the Navy, including 2 Westpac cruises on Grasp. Our comms horsepower consisted of a TBL and a TCS, 2 RBC's and an SRR-11. The only "hi-tech" was the fleet broadcast. Those who never served on a small vessel during those primitive times missed out on what being a radioman was really all about. Bravo Zulu, fellow RMs.
