Message | Mercy me, I knew you'd triumph! I am elated for you to have safely (and sanely?) come out on the other side of this here crazy continent. The first thing I noticed in your LA picture was that you were, at last, wearing jeans. How does it feel to be a regular guy walking down the street again?
I've been following along as you plodded through the West and yes, you certainly gave us all the gift of seeing all the ubsurdity, beauty and randomness to be had out there, as you experienced it one step at a time. In short, you cracked me up...every time I had a read.
You did right by your brother, his fellow soliders, and their families (ours too). (I sent your website on to my brother-in-law who served 2 terms in Iraq.) I sure hope you were able to raise buckets of money for the Legions, but if the financial side was less than you hoped for, I believe that doing what you did in their name is still profound.
In my eyes, with your dedication and intention, you honored the families who have lost so much by acknowledging that you recognize their sacrifice and their need, and that, simply- you remember them. In this era of fleeting headlines, I think it is mighty rare for someone to pay attention to the stories that get lost in the shuffle of the next big news.
All that said, (are you still reading?) I'll raise my glass to you tonight and send a shout out from Durango, Colorado. I hope your victory/ beer fest is simply smashing. Take care, keep in touch. C |
