MessageThank you for the pictures of the old mill. I was a boy growing up in the village in 1937 when the mill was still operating. In the winter, our parents warned us about sliding on the hill. Disobeyed and hit the truck carrying paper to the rr siding. I got a black eye and some bruises, but felt the punishment more for disobeying my mother.

MessageSeeing photos of the area brings back memories. I used to live in a house on the banks of the black river near the paper mill. The house fell into the river years ago. As I child I used to frequent the paper mill store for paper and pencils. Used to fish for catfish on the river above the falls with my brothers. Walked the railroad tracks to get to our favorite fishing spot. Lived in Mansfield too. There was a creek that had real cool rapids and a bridge we used to dive off of. There were 7 kids in our family. Don't know if any body would remember us. Your photos kind of make me home sick.

MessageMy father's family has its roots in the Ellisburg area, as well as Sandy Creek. I need to identify the road # off which is the Mellen homestead. In 2002 I followed the road until it was baricaded by wire fence. I could see the old road as it continued on towards Ellisburg. The road was called Mellen Road at one time and it still has its stone column markers. I used Google Maps to follow the road - the imprint is still viewable - how exciting was that! I want to locate the property owner, so I can travel the road and look for foundations along the way.

MessageI bought an abandoned farm in Smithville Flats and would like to get as much information on it as possible. If anyone knows anything about the big brick house on Rt. 220 between Smithville and McDonough I would appreciate it Thank you
