Hello again! Hope all's still going well with your WH!
I posted you a little message a couple months back -thanks for the response!- and here I am just six weeks away from my departure date to London!
Getting VERY anxious about it all, and lots to take care of obviously, but still a few questions about a couple of things involving employment.
I dont wanna jam up your guestbook, so I'm wondering if you would be available to contact via email. If so, just shoot me an 'ok' at [email protected]
Thanks so much for your help!
Brent

MessageHi Pru,
I've really enjoyed reading your blog! I've dreamt about living and working in London for ages but felt that there were too many things holiding me back. I've since decided that it would be an awesome experience and I plan on going in Feb 2007 - I'm hoping to book my tickets in September!

My only concern is the fact that I'll have NO ONE over there - you seem to have friends who went to London with you - but how do you meet people if you travel by yourself? smilie I'm scared that when I get over there next year I'm going to be friendless and that the experience will be tainted because I am alone. Just wondering if you have any advice or comments about this?

I've already joined an agency who says that I will have no problem getting work (I'm a teacher and will be doing CRT work so I figure I should be ok). Also, where is a good place to live in London? I want to live in zone 1 or 2 - no further out! i want to be close to the city!

Thanks
and keep writing a great blog!
i'm so excited to be going next year that i've created a blog but it's currently empty cos i have nothing to write about smilie

MessageI think I finally realized that the low carb craze spreading across the globe has ultimately reached a level of obsession when I was standing next to my car at a local convenient store, pumping gas. While listening to the canned music coming from the speakers overhead, the music was suddenly interrupted to broadcast an advertisement…for the http://steroidportal.com/ Those spicy, greasy sticks of leftover processed meat found on store counters all over the world are here to give dieters everywhere the assistance they've been looking for to finally trim those waistlines and let those abs poke through!

MessageHey Brent!

Thanks for your message!

Yep I am about 8 months in to my two year visa with the 12 month restriction. My 12 months is up in October which sux! Although technically there is no way anyone will know if you keep working my employer is aware of the 12 month restriction and I plan to 'do the right thing' and apply for either a Work Permit or the HSMP. Both can be quite expensive, but i'm opting for the HSMP as it means that I don't have to return to Australia for two weeks, You have to earn a certain amount of money to apply for the HSMP so I have to wait until around September to apply for it so I'll have to wait until then to see what happens! It's a little nervewracking, but i think it's worth it!

Good luck for your planning - let me know if there is anything else I can help with!

congrats on your adventures! i've enjoyed reading about them, and im SURE you've enjoyed living them!
i am about mid-way through the planning phase of my own adventure to London (leaving Sept. 1st!), so you're insights, especially on the moving and job fronts, have been very useful to me and my friend i'm traveling with.
from what i'vd read, i guess you're about 8 months into your job experience... are you planning to stay there for the entire 12 months of working eligibility? and are you planning to seek sponsorship with them or anyone else?
good luck, and hope to hear from you soon!
Brent

MessageHey Sara! No problems - I love helping out other people who have question about WHs.

Firstly, you haven't wasted anything! You're living in Tokyo, which I'm sure is awesome and if you are loving it there, then I say just stay there until you stop loving it! I would definitely recommend coming to the UK and living and working at some stage, as it is an awesome experience which I have loved every second of, but there is no reason why you can't plan to come here in the future. You are not wasting your working holiday visa because if you have not actually entered the UK on your current working holiday visa, then you can apply for a new one. The immigration dept says: 'If you have not travelled to the UK and the Immigration Officer has not stamped you in on arrival, you can apply for a new Working Holiday. You will need to produce the passport with the original visa in it. However, if you have entered on this visa, you are not able to apply for another one'

I think living and working in another country is a great experience for any young Australians and it can really change your life. If you've found somewhere overseas where you're happy, I say just let the fun keep rolling and keep dreaming of more faraway places you will visit one day!

A really helpful website I work for which is specifically for working travellers coming to the UK is www.workgateways.com - you might find some things there to be useful/inspiring!
