MessageMore addictive cigarettes:

Cigarettes pack more nicotine than they used to. Since
1998, the average nicotineyield of most brands of
cigarettes has increased by at least 10 percent.
Brands that attract young and minority smokers are
especially bad-the nicotine content of Kool Lights,
for example, a brand favored by African-American
smokers, has increased by a whopping 30 percent.
Anti-smoking activists say the sudden rise of nicotine
livels in 92 of 116 brands is no accident, and shows
that while the tobacco industry is pretending to be
encouraging young people not to smoke, it's been
secretly working to keep smokers hooked. Nicotine is
highly addictive, and increasing levels of it would
make it harder for smokers to quit. "i'm always
shocked at the new things the industry does,"
northeastern professor richard daynard tells THE
BOSTON GLOBE. this is "sleazy in a new and different
way."

Thanks Lanny. Keep on fighting the good fight!
