MessageHello,
so great to read your blog! Doctoring is about individuals--not statistics or double blind studies. We can learn so much from people's stories and parent's intuition.
I am planning a family autism retreat camp slated for June 2009 in Silverton, OR. The idea is to offer a safe place for a family with an autistic child to take a vacation as well as information on treating autism. The information will be taught by 2 naturopathic physicians, 2 therapists that do sensory integration work with autistic children, and two people who do horse therapy with children with developmental disorders. One of the NDs is the author of a new book on Aspergers "Asperger Syndrome--Natural Steps toward a Better Life", by Suzanne Lawton, ND.

The retreat is at a camp that has lots of nature and activities like a small lake for canoeing and swimming, hiking trails, a volleyball sand court, a full gymnasium and a horse arena.
I'd like to know from you if parents/families would go for this and what, in particular, do you see that would be important. Siblings can take part in a daycamp that is going on at the same time at the camp (the daycamp will be away from the retreat area).
Any ideas you have or anyone you'd like to tell about this would be great. I'm asking the people that know the most for this kind of information--parents!
take care and the absolute best to you all in the New Year!

my website is drsherylwagner
sincerely,
Sheryl Wagner, naturopathic physician

MessageHi-I am a Maine married mum of four wonderful kids, two of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. My son, Jacob, 19, is a sophomore at a Maine university, and my two little girls are ages six (Emma) and four (Kaysa), and they are on the spectrum.
Sadly, my oldest child---who would have turned 21 a few days ago--passed away unexpectedly on March 15th, 2007, at the age of 19 years old. It has been very difficult to be a grieving mom, let alone a grieving mum to two special needs youngsters, and a son who was only 14 months younger than, and very close to, his big brother.
Nick's baby boy was born four months after he passed away----and I am also a proud Grammy to 16 month old Deven.
I recently read Ginger Taylor's article on Ashley Brock----my college roommate is a kindergarten teacher in Brunswick. I think about little Ashley & her family often....such a tragedy.
Take care---
