MessageSean,

It looks as though we are distantly related - I have an article in reference to John if you're interested.

Cheers! Megan

MessageA chara,
Excellent site. My grandfather, Laurence (Lar) Cotter was a member with 1st Cork Brigade 2nd Battalion. I dont know too much on him other than he arrested with Liam Lynch & Terence MacSwiney down in City Hall by the Brits. MacSwiney went onto die from his hungerstrike from this arrest. I dont know to much else other than information I got that he was on hungerstrike himself & was imprisoned in both Old Cork Gaol & Spike. He also fought for the Anti-treaty IRA against Free-State forces. Well done on the site. Also have one of his medals. Yellow & black band with "Comrac" band on it. Would love to have learned more on him. It provides vital information to those seeking knowledge on the subject. The men died for the Freedom of Ireland. Fuair siad bás ar son saoirse na hÉireann.

MessageDetails of the incident mentioned on this website came from a number of different sources. The names of the dead policemen plus an account of the episode can be found in 'Police Casualties in Ireland 1919-1922' by Richard Abbott (Mercier Press).

MessageVery interesting site!

What is your source for the May 14th 1921 incident in Blackpool? My research of contemporary newspaper reports suggests a different name and county of origin for the first constable that was killed.
