MessageThis was my first base after basic. I was there in 1964 & 1965.
AFSC 90350. Xray Technologist. 806 Medical Group. It seemed like I was at the hospital all the time. There were usually only 3 or 4 xray techs a lot of the time, but still I have a lot of good memories there. Any old medics from that era?

MessageK.I. Sawyer AFB was my 1st base out of Basic. I lived in Western MI, Grand Rapids, all my life and was called into the USAF to continue my opportunity to extend my education. Rec'd my training in Av/Comm and reported to the 87th on 01Jan1977. The temp I recalled was somewhere around -25 degrees F. I thought I remembered working and training with SSgt. Elmer Klein (Instruments) and Sgt. Mike Jacobson and SSgt. Davenport, who were my trainers. I remember having my wisdom teeth yanked and a roommate who just happened to be an EMT and provided some much needed pain relief that knocked me out for about 36 hours. I went many places while enjoying the U.P. Attended a Methodist Church in Negaunee, named Mitchell. Went fishing, cross country 4-wheeling with friends. It was the greatest 18 months learning what being a Single Airman meant to help me get to know myself. I took many pictures and I've been trying to post them as I go through and scan them to digital format. I've been enjoying the I Survived K.I. Sawyer AFB on Facebook and the Convair F-106 Delta Dart Page group also. I know I liked Russ St. Onge and have been following him and his Antarctic trek. Hoping to be able to return this summer with my wife to see the Museum and other places in the UP. Thanks for letting me reminisce. smilie

MessageMy husband and I moved from Chicago (O'Hare) to K.I. sawyer in Sept. 1959. We were one of the last to leave OHare, I think. We moved on base at 256 Explorer Dr. Had a cold time way up north. My husband W.D. Marshall, was a
Meteorologist and briefed pilots. We lived next door to Capt. Bill Tanner and wife Billie from Texas!

MessageMy wife and I were 12 years old in summer of 1961 when our B-52 pilot dads arrived at KI. We attended Gwinn HS and Graduated in 67 and were married in 68 in FL. We arrived in Sept 77 from Kincheloe AFB and I was a B-52 Nav in 644th. I went to KC-135s at KI in 80 in the 46th ARS as a nav and departed for Pease AFB in 81. In 88 I arrived in the 307th ARS and was the Exec to the Wing CC and Chief of Tanker Stan/Eval. My father in law left in 67 and returned in 71 as the Wing CC, Col Jack Thompson. Love the UP and KI Sawyer! Great memories living on Fortress st next to Peggy's street Sidewinder. Our parents were good friends. Remember the ski hill opening, building scout site at base lake, with Sgt Shane, and going back to the Big falls behind the base and having BB gun battles. Remember the hwy 41 extension opening day. Remember super snow storms and digging out.

MessageI was stationed at KI from 1966-1970. I was assigned to CES. I have many memories from this base. I was back in the 80's to see the base before it closed. I have lost touch with many of the guys I worked with. Best time in my Life. It made me the person I am today. smilie smilie
PS, I hated the Cold and Snow. This was God's country.
